You may have heard the term 'eco dry-cleaning', but what makes it different to traditional dry-cleaning?
Traditional dry-cleaners use petroleum based chemicals, perchloroethylene (perc for short), which is quite an aggressive chemical. This process also requires high temperatures, which can have a detrimental impact on clothes causing fabrics to deteriorate, as well as melt buttons or other decorations on clothes and lastly, the waste from this conventional form of dry-cleaning is harmful to the environment.
Here at Erimus Cleaners, we installed our our first 'eco dry-cleaner' in 2007 which was a GreenEarth machine and then in 2014 we removed our last 'perc' machine, replacing it with a lagoon® wet cleaning system. (see What is Wet Cleaning?) We now have two different eco dry-cleaning systems, capable of tackling the toughest of stains, even on the most delicate of fabrics.
GreenEarth Cleaning system offers an environmentally friendly alternative to the traditional dry-cleaning method, that is better for people too as it is non-allergic, non-irritating and safe to handle.
The GreenEarth Cleaning system uses liquid silicon, which is chemically inert, to safely penetrate fabric fibres and removes dirt without being abrasive, leaching dyes or damaging delicate ornamentation. The gentle cleaning process can be explained with the complex science but all anyone really needs to understand is that GreenEarth silicone doesn’t work alone, it is part of a proprietary cleaning system engineered for gentleness and sustainability.
The combined process results in reduced mechanical action and heat, the GreenEarth system delivers the gentlest clean in dry cleaning. This means that clothes don’t just come back clean, they come back rejuvenated, fabrics actually feel soft and supple again, they look better too. Clothes look new longer, the colours stay brighter and don’t run, whites stay whiter and garments won't yellow even after repeated cleaning.
Because there is very little wrinkling and no static with GreenEarth, items need less pressing and finishing, resulting in less wear and tear, extending the lifetime of the garment compared to traditional dry cleaning.
This gentle, sustainable technology is a solution to the cleaning needs of modern fashions, many of the new nanotech finishes and coatings, E-fibres and sustainable dyes cannot withstand the harsh chemicals used in the traditional dry-cleaning industry. The fashion industry has a friend in GreenEarth.
